BICYCLE SAFETY

Bicycle Safety Do you know the correct way to wear a bicycle helmet?

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission suggests the following tips:

  • Before you buy a bicycle helmet, make sure it fits!
  • Wear it low on your forehead - 2 finger widths above your eyebrows.
  • Sit it evenly between your ears and flat on your head.
  • Tighten the chin strap and adjust the pads inside so it feels snug and secure and doesn't move up and down or from side to side.
  • For the first time ever, all bicycle helmets must meet a uniform mandatory safety standard issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. After March 1999, you need only to look for a label or sticker that says the helmet meets the new CPSC standard. For more details and for information concerning older helmets, as well as why wearing a helmet is so important, read more at their web site at http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/pubs/bike.html

Remind grownups to wear their helmets too!
