Atlanta Ronald McDonald Houses

A Home Away From Home For Families
of Critically Ill and Injured Children

"There's no place like home." This statement rings especially true for those families who must come to Atlanta-area children's hospitals to have their children treated for cancer and other serious illnesses or injuries. Sometimes, the treatments last for days, weeks, months, and even years, creating a hardship for these children and their parents.

Recognizing the needs of these families, a group of volunteers joined Atlanta-area McDonald's restaurant owners to create Atlanta's first Ronald McDonald House in 1979. This House, the 4th in the world, located at 792 Houston Mill Road has sixteen bedrooms and has hosted over 22,000 families.

Continued, selfless commitment on the part of thousands of volunteers and donors helped build a second Atlanta Ronald McDonald House, opened in June 1994 at 5420 Peachtree Dunwoody Road. This new "home away from home" offers eleven bedrooms and has hosted over 6,500 families.

At the Atlanta Ronald McDonald Houses, for only $10.00 per night, families can enjoy all of the comforts of home, receive nutritious meals provided by volunteers and obtain emotional support through contact with other families experiencing similar situations. No family is turned away if they cannot afford the small fee.

The Atlanta Ronald McDonald Houses are owned and operated by Atlanta Ronald McDonald House Charities, Inc., a non-profit 501(c)(3) which creates, finds, and supports programs that directly improve the health and well-being of children. There are 221 Ronald McDonald Houses in 21 countries.
